Worldwide Insurance Services Enterprise Ltd. (WISE) is an independent Taiwanese insurance and reinsurance broking and servicing company that was established in its current form in 1987.
The history of the company can, however, be traced back to December 1974 when Marsh & McLennan was established in Taiwan to become the first U.S. insurance broker licensed to do business in that country.
When in 1986/87, Marsh & McLennan took the strategic decision to localize their operations in the Philippines, Taiwan, Hong Kong and China, WISE became Marsh & McLennan's exclusive correspondent in Taiwan, replacing its original structure as a wholly owned subsidiary of Marsh & McLennan. This relationship ceased when Marsh & McLennan acquired Johnson & Higgins in 1997.
Mr. Jack Sha, Chairman of WISE, was sent by Marsh & McLennan's Head Office in New York to Taiwan. Prior to returning to Taiwan, Mr. Sha worked with Marsh & McLennan's Head Office in New York in a senior position as well in South East Asia regional offices. In 1981, Mr. Sha opened Marsh & McLennan's office in Beijing, China, becoming the first insurance broker stationed in the People’s Republic of China.
